The Night
- The Night, by Ellie Wiesel was a book written by a survivor of the Holocaust.
- It took place between 1941-1944.
- Eliezer, the author, and survivor was starved, beaten, and forced into labor.
- The Moche teaches Eliezer, He needs to seek inside, and tell the god the right questions.
- Jewish neighborhoods were turned into ghettos, which were houses that were in terrible condition.
- In the Ghetto, there were about 400,000 Jewish Families.
- The Jewish families were transported through cattle cars to the concentration camps.
- The men, and women had to be in groups, men took left, women took right.
- Jewish families struggle greatly to find food and water, after being forced into the concentration camps.
- The people of Sighet didn’t believe Moishe, when he tried to warn them that they were about to be taken.
The Holocaust
- Occurred during WWII between 1941-1945
- Over 6 million Jews died
- The Jewish community lived in Concentration Camps in Europe
- They were not allowed to keep any personal belongings while in camps
- They were transported from camp to camp
- They were burned in crematories and gassed in chambers
- They were only given small portions of bread and soup to eat
- Their portions were so small, most of them died from starvation and dehydration
- The Jewish people were rescued from the Concentration Camps on D-Day
World War II
- Originally started in Europe and started to affect other parts of the world
- WWII began on September 1, 1939
- On September 17, 1939 Soviet troops invaded Poland from the east
- Adolf Hitler started WWII, by invading Poland, days later there was a war declared between France and Britain
- It started in 1939 and ended in 1945
- Japan surrendered on September 2,1945
- Germany surrendered on May 7, 1945
- There were about 50 million deaths from the war
- The deadliest battle in World War II was the Battle of the Bulge
- Before World War II, Germany was ruled by Adolf Hitler, who wanted to rule Europe
